To systematically map the research about mini forests and similar small-scale afforestation initiatives in urban settings, we are conducting a scoping review following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). From three online databases and grey literature published in English since 1993, 3133 sources were examined, and 25 studies were selected for further analysis. The analysis explores diverse types of small-scale urban forests established globally, different approaches employed to plant these forests, a range of methods used to study their growth and observed outcomes, and different research gaps and needs for future development.
